The United Nations Association of the National Capital Area (UNA-NCA) is part of the World Federation of United Nations Associations. Each year, its Human Rights Award honors outstanding leaders in the human rights community. In 2017, Bread for the City (BFC) has earned this distinction! BFC’s Chief Executive Officer, George A. Jones, talks about this significant recognition, and what is on the horizon for BFC’s own human rights work.

Bread for the City wouldn’t exist without our dedicated volunteers. They serve as important partners in Bread for the City’s work by contributing hours of their time at our food pantries, orchard, clothing room, rooftop gardens, events, and centers to ensure we remain able to help 8,000 – 10,000 people each month. We can’t do it without them. Marie Hoffman is one of these amazing volunteers. After ten years serving at Bread, she shares her story.

Since 2016, Bread for the City has formed an alliance with Atlas Corps, an organization whose mission is to address critical social issues by developing leaders, strengthening organizations, and promoting innovation through a non-profit professional scholarship.

Ever in the habit of increasing our capacity to best serve DC residents in need, Bread for the City and the VCA MacArthur Animal Hospital have launched the Washington DC VCA Pet Food Pantry, (or as we like to call it, ‘Bread for the Kitties!’) The initiative is a collaboration with VCA, an international corporation of veterinary hospitals, and Hill’s Pet Nutrition.
