When I first started at Bread for the City in 2011 (my, how time flies!), Yael Krigman was an attorney looking to get her firm more involved in our work. She helped raise money for Holiday Helpings (*and you can too!), volunteered in our food pantry, and frequently brought us homemade cakepops, which was her part-time business and passion project. When she quit her job as an attorney to focus full-time on her baking business, Baked by Yael, she remembered her friends at Bread for the City! Now, she makes a weekly donation of more than 200 delicious bagels to distribute to community members experiencing food insecurity.
Yael says she loves giving back to the community while growing her business. “When I first started volunteering with Bread for the City, I never imagined I would wind up literally providing bread for the city. I’m so proud that Baked by Yael can help those in need through such a wonderful organization.”
Now, Yael is doing even more. If you mention Bread for the City in person, by phone, or use the promotional code “BREAD” on her website (bakedbyyael.com), Baked by Yael will donate 10% of the proceeds from your order directly to BFC! It’s a simple way to help further our mission to provide comprehensive services to our neighbors living with low incomes. I mean, CAKEPOPS! I can’t think of a better win-win situation.
Whether you need cakepops for a birthday celebration, breakfast for an office meeting, client gifts, holiday gifts, or a great party idea (did someone say Cakepop Party??), Baked by Yael will donate 10% of your order to Bread for the City.
Baked By Yael is a fantastic place and we hope you check it out. It has grown into a robust business, with a brick and mortar location right across from the Zoo in Woodley Park. She’s expanded beyond cakepops, with loads of delicious pastries, coffee and, of course, hand-rolled bagels. It’s nut free and kosher. In addition to offering curbside pickup at their store, they offer local delivery and nationwide shipping.
Yael, thank you for your continued support of Bread for the City and your leadership as a woman-owned small business. Here’s to many more seasons together!
