As the holiday season approaches, Bread for the City is excited to announce the launch of our 31st annual Holiday Helpings campaign! This heartwarming initiative is dedicated to bringing joy and a sense of community to the hearts and homes of 12,500 DC families. The goal this year is ambitious, aiming to raise $1.2 million to provide holiday meals. Amazon has kicked off the campaign with a generous $200,000 contribution to get things rolling.

A Cherished Tradition

For over three decades, Holiday Helpings has been a cherished tradition at Bread for the City’s food pantries. The program ensures that families living on low incomes have the essentials to celebrate the holiday season with dignity and respect. Traditionally, this means providing turkeys, holiday fixings, and fresh produce to those in need. The program’s success relies on support from individuals, foundations, and businesses across the DC region.

In addition to their generous monetary donation, Amazon also provided 28,000 reusable grocery bags for Holiday Helpings

Amazon’s Heartwarming Contribution

This year, Amazon’s contribution is set to make the holidays brighter for almost 3,000 local families. After a challenging year marked by the ongoing pandemic, last year’s Holiday Helpings program saw unprecedented need. This year, the focus is on equity, with a groundbreaking expansion of mobile food delivery services that will bring holiday supplies directly to select residential buildings. This is in addition to on-site distribution at the organization’s two community centers, distribution of fresh groceries, and offering families a choice between turkey and chicken. Holiday Helpings is not just a meal; it’s a powerful demonstration of neighbors supporting neighbors and fostering a sense of community.
