Statement on the Supreme Court’s Overturn of Roe v. Wade

The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is an unraveling of the progress our nation has made, not just in healthcare, but in fundamental human rights. States across the U.S. are already working to criminalize the decisions of birthing people, a move that will certainly impact Black, brown, and low-income communities the most. This decision puts the lives of birthing people at risk and will plunge low-income families deeper into poverty. But it won’t stop people from trying to have an abortion, it will only make it more dangerous and costly.

Our national legislators in Congress must act immediately to protect fundamental abortion access as a right under the law. Contact your national and state legislators and demand they take action to protect human rights. In DC, which has no voting rights in Congress, our right to access safe abortion is not directly protected. But at this time, abortions are legal in DC. What can you do to show solidarity?

  1. Donate to abortion funds in the following states where abortions are slated to be baned within the next month: Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Idaho, Utah, Missouri, and Mississippi.
  2. Donate to the DC Abortion Fund to cover the cost of an abortion – which can cost upwards of $2,000.
  3. Show up! We will be meeting at the Supreme Court at 5:00 PM today. Follow Harriet’s Wildest Dreams on Twitter or Instagram for upcoming actions in Washington, DC.
