The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is an unraveling of the progress our nation has made, not just in healthcare, but in fundamental human rights. States across the U.S. are already working to criminalize the decisions of birthing people, a move that will certainly impact Black, brown, and low-income communities the most. This decision puts the lives of birthing people at risk and will plunge low-income families deeper into poverty. But it won’t stop people from trying to have an abortion, it will only make it more dangerous and costly.
Our national legislators in Congress must act immediately to protect fundamental abortion access as a right under the law. Contact your national and state legislators and demand they take action to protect human rights. In DC, which has no voting rights in Congress, our right to access safe abortion is not directly protected. But at this time, abortions are legal in DC.
