Each month, Bread for the City opens space for men to connect in brotherhood, talk about the issues of life, and gain new information and skills. The Strength Series is FREE and OPEN TO ALL MEN who wish to attend the sessions on relationships, finance, health, career, mind, creativity, black history, or advocacy on 2nd Mondays. Feel free to walk in, and come as you are.  We look forward to shaking your hand!

Applications accepted year-round.

To apply to be a VOLUNTEER speaker or workshop presenter (no honorarium or compensation of any kind is available), please complete our application.  A member of Bread for the City’s staff or The Strength Series’ Leadership Circle will be in touch to schedule a brief chat about your request to present. A decision will be made within two months of each application.

Leadership Circle

The Strength Series is looking for men who are willing to encourage and support other men in an unpaid volunteer role as we all work through the challenges of life.  Apply for The Strength Series’ “Leadership Circle” to help us build and sustain this new initiative.  New leaders will be accepted every few months.

Required Time Commitment:  Approximately 6-7 hours per month

Responsibilities:  Attend 2nd Monday sessions, plus one additional meeting to help plan activities.  Co-lead one age-categorized subgroup on 2nd Mondays.  Keep an ear to the ground for workshop topics to present, speakers to invite, and to know what’s in the mind of participants.  Serve as one of the “faces” of The Strength Series.  Report to Bread for the City’s Volunteer & In-Kind Manager.  Set a positive example.

Sessions for The Strength Series take place during what is normally a dinner hour for many.  For that reason, Bread for the City strives to offer beverages and appetizers to participants.  Individuals are invited to donate healthy, nonperishable food items in their original packaging.  Restaurants and other groups are also invited to provide dinner for program participants.  Please contact the Volunteer & In-Kind Manager to express interest and make arrangements.
