Partner Spotlight: World Bank Group, Community Connections Program

In 2021, 142 World Bank Group team members pledged giving support through the organization’s Community Connections Campaign (CCC), totaling over $33,500 in funding to BFC. To make the team’s generosity even more impactful, the World Bank Group will be matching all gifts at 100%. For over 17 years, the World Bank Group has provided this opportunity to their team members and we are so grateful that they do!

This opportunity helps underscore the values and causes important to team members, especially supporting local NGOs, and also expands the organization’s own fight against poverty by enhancing their diverse funding initiatives. In the history of the Community Connections Campaign, Bread for the City has received $197,126 in funding from team member donations and the organization’s 100% match of those gifts.

Since the ‘90s, the World Bank Group, with its headquarters in Washington, D.C., has been a great supporter of BFC, helping us develop our programs and further our work with generous financial support from the organization and team members, along with team members volunteering with our programs and hosting in-kind drives to fulfill program and client supply requests. In the last 10 years alone, their robust partnership has provided over $750,000 in critical funding, supporting the creation of our state-of-the-art Michelle Obama Southeast Center of Bread for the City, expanded services for furloughed government workers in 2019, our racial justice and equity work, and the adaptations we have made to address COVID-19. We greatly appreciate the World Bank Group’s ability to provide intentional and dynamic support – especially in a time of crisis – and how they organize multiple channels for engagement and create space for us to share our mission with their team.

The Community Connections Program has awarded over $50 million to organizations in the District and region, and increasingly throughout the world. For their team, the CCC allows them to vocally show support for the communities they work and live in, and to help raise vital funding and awareness for our organizations like BFC. We call this a win-win!

“Our mission at the World Bank Group is to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity around the world. Through the Community Connections program, we live these twin goals in our HQ’s communities via employee and corporate philanthropy, volunteerism, in-kind donations, and an internship program for students from local public high schools. We are very grateful for the opportunity to partner with Bread for The City and support their critical and holistic work to build more equitable communities.” – Lindsey Fredric Buss, Senior External Affairs Officer, World Bank Group Community Connections

At Bread for the City, we share the World Bank Group’s vision for the future, and we look forward to continuing this important work together.
