We are excited to partner once more with the YMCA to offer Simple Cooking with Heart (SCWH) Level Three. This is a four-week series that will introduce four simple approaches to meal prep. It is designed to help participants build lasting healthy habits by learning the basics and reaping the benefits of meal prep. Each class introduces a different meal prep method—ingredient prep, batch cooking, cook and freeze, and breakfast/lunch—offering practical tools to make healthy eating easier and more consistent. This class will meet weekly via Microsoft Teams, or you can join us at Bread for the City to watch as a group. Your instructor from YMCA will email a link to join the class.

An important update for SNAP-eligible DC residents:
Everyone who is SNAP-eligible and lives in Washington, DC and attends a class or webinar will be eligible to participate in the DC Grocery Access Pilot, a brand-new program powered by Instacart. Participants must sign a consent form and agree to participate in three short surveys, one at the beginning of the program, the second in six months, and the third and final survey after one year. Through this initiative, up to 1,000 DC households will receive:

  • A complimentary Instacart+ membership, and
  • A monthly Instacart Health Fresh Funds stipend ($3.50/month) to help cover delivery and service fees.

This pilot is designed to make it easier for families in underserved neighborhoods to access fresh, healthy food — and to give you more control, convenience, and support as you work toward healthier eating habits. If you or someone you know is SNAP-eligible and lives in DC, registering for our webinars or classes is the first step toward accessing this benefit.

Email Danielle.Turner@ymcadc.org with any questions.

The virtual classes will be held using Microsoft Teams. Your instructor from YMCA will reach out to confirm your registration and provide you a Teams link to log into the class. You may also join us at Bread for the City to watch together as a group.
