Bread for the City CEO George A. Jones comments on the FY2021 DC Budget.
We are all in this together, yet our tax policies tell a different story. By asking DC’s richest households, giant corporations, and real estate developers to pay their fair share, we will have more revenue to address budget shortfalls and provide targeted recovery support to those individuals and local businesses who have been hardest hit.

For 12 years, BFC has had the honor of calling WilmerHale a partner, and a friend for even longer! In good times and bad, they have stood by our side: as a financial partner, volunteering with our teams, helping us deliver resources to the community, and raising funding for our programs -- and their pandemic response effort is no different!
As stay-at-home orders continue and debates begin on the phased re-opening of DC to a “new normal,” Bread for the City has made the difficult decision to cancel our 2020 Good Hope Gala, which was originally rescheduled for September 25th. Our number one priority is the health and safety of our community, staff, and supporters. While we are not able to hold this annual event, know we will continue to stretch resources to absorb the increased need among DC residents. Visit breadforthecity.org/goodhopegala for future updates.
Mayor Bowser announced that the Washington, DC Stay-at-Home Order has been extended to Monday, June 8, 2020. Bread for the City will continue on the current modified operating schedule through that time.

Bread for the City's #GivingTuesday was an AMAZING day! With the help of our supporters, Bread for the City raised $117,895 in just 24 hours --- meeting our anonymous match of $50,000, and then some--in a big way! When we add in the $50,000 match, we raised a grand total of $167,895 in support of DC residents living on low income. THANK YOU!
