We’re honored to be the featured partner in this month’s Capital Bikeshare newsletter. Read more about our collaboration through the My Health GPS program below, which helps bring another affordable transportation option to District residents. For more information about Capital Bikeshare, visit them on the web here.
Bread for the City is a front line agency that aims to serve and empower low-income DC residents. They provide food, clothing, medical care, as well as a range of legal and social services to help reduce the burden of poverty.
To further meet the needs of their clients, Bread for the City recently expanded the Community Partners Program to both of their locations in Northwest and Southeast DC. According to Care Management Specialists Brittany Ferreras and Ashley Moore, it compliments the programming and services they offer at their location very well.
“Within the My Health GPS program at Bread for the City’s NW Center, we serve a variety of clients who do not have access to reliable transportation, and who also have goals to become more physically active within their communities. Joining the CaBi partnership has allowed us to not only offer another mode of transportation but has also assisted us with empowering individuals to reach their fitness goals at an outstanding cost.”
Mercy Smith is a client in the Women Empowered program at the SE Center, and since becoming a Capital Bikeshare member she has benefited from it in more ways than one. “I joined Women Empowered because I was sick and I needed to be around good people. Biking has helped me to think clearer and I have been able to reduce the amount of medication that I am taking, and I have met a lot of nice people.”
