The DC Fiscal Policy Institute (DCFPI) is pleased to announce the election of George Jones as Chair of its Board of Directors.
With over two decades of experience in grassroots organizing and advocacy, Ría has been at the forefront of empowering Black and Latino communities. Their journey has seen them engage in a spectrum of movements, from the Labor movement to Occupy Wall Street and, more recently, providing invaluable legal support to various social justice movements. In their new role as Associate Director, Ría will play a pivotal role in steering our organizing efforts providing supervision, guidance, and direction to our team. They will also spearhead political education initiatives within Bread for the City, fostering a deeper understanding of systemic issues and organizing opportunities among staff, leadership, and clients.
As we bid farewell to another year, it’s time to reflect on the moments that have defined our journey at Bread for the City in 2023.
As the country braces for a federal government shutdown on Sunday, October 1st, Bread for the City’s Food Pantry will remain steadfast in its commitment to keeping our doors “open for any and all," shares Trazy Collins, Food and Clothing Director.

Bread for the City, the leading food pantry in Washington, DC, faced a challenging decision on March 20. After three years of increased service to the community during the pandemic, coping with loss, and undertaking planning and reflection, the organization made the difficult choice to temporarily close its Northwest Center pantry at 1525 7th Street NW and the Michelle Obama Southeast Center pantry at 1700 Good Hope Road SE, allowing its dedicated staff to rest and mourn.

Bread for the City's Farmers Market is open to the general public beginning at 10 am until we run out of produce. We hold the market on the second Friday of the month at our Northwest Center (1525 7th St NW, Washington, DC 20001) and the fourth Friday of the month at our Southeast Center (1700 Good Hope Rd SE, Washington, DC 20020).
