Partnership Spotlight: Mars, Incorporated & Bread for the City- Community Farmers Market!

217 individuals picked up produce. 25 volunteers served. 16 furbabies treated and snuggled. All in all, a successful market!

Our first-ever enhanced Free Farmers Market on September 6th was a huge success! Thanks to our collaboration with our friends at Mars, Incorporated, we were able to add some much needed services to our bi-monthly free farmers market. In addition to distributing our usual fresh fruits and veggies, we hosted a cooking demonstration courtesy of Uncle Ben’s®, complete with delicious samples, free rice, coupons, and recipes; a pet clinic hosted by Banfield Pet Hospital® with free preventive care, giveaways, and educational materials from Better Cities for Pets™, and even oral health promotion courtesy of Wrigley Oral Healthcare Program.

A special thank you to our friends at Mars, Incorporated and their subsidiaries, to the Capital Area Food Bank for the continued support of our bi-monthly market, and to the Mayor’s office for promoting their clean cities initiative with pet waste bag giveaways.

You can see more pictures of our market in action here.

Bread for the City will be closed, and our farmers market will be canceled on Friday, March 21. This is so our staff have the chance to attend the memorial service for one of our team members. We apologize for the inconvenience.
