Holiday Helpings: We’re Halfway There
November 15, 2018 by BFC in Food Program Holiday Helpings
On November 1, we kicked off our annual Holiday Helpings campaign, BFC’s longstanding tradition to provided DC families experiencing hunger with a complete holiday meal kit so they may celebrate the holidays in the comfort of their own homes.
With the support of more than 600 donations and 76 fundraisers, we have raised enough for over 4,265 turkey meals since the campaign kickoff! We are so grateful for your efforts in driving this campaign! You can also stay up-to-date on turkey distribution by visiting our live turkey tracker.
So what does all this mean?
Well, we’re glad you asked. A turkey is the centerpiece of a Thanksgiving dinner. But that’s not all we’re providing families. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the full Thanksgiving meal includes a delicious turkey (Grade A, of course), rice, cranberry sauce, peaches, green beans, mixed veggies, whole kernel corn, stuffing (all low sodium) AND fresh or canned sweet potatoes donated by City Orchard.
We got hungry just typing that.
We’re confident we’ll reach our goal of feeding 9,000 families before Christmas Eve. It costs just $32 to feed a family of four.
So how can you help?
We’re also glad you asked. You can create your own Holiday Helpings fundraising drive page here or donate to Holiday Helpings here.
We want to send a special shout out to our current leading donors:
Alston & Bird
Perkins Coie, LLP
Paul Taskier
Goodwin Procter, LLP
Covington and Burling, LLP
Jones Day
So you’d like to create a fundraising page, do we have any tips for hosting a successful fundraiser?
YES! Here are a few pointers to make your Holiday Helpings fundraiser a hit:
- Donate to your own page (this shows your commitment to your own goal)
- Follow up with interested family and friends (because we all can
be forgetful!). Sometimes, it takes a few emails or calls to get through to
your community. Be persistent! - Use social media (let’s be honest, there’s a strong chance you’ve
been pondering your next post). - Add an incentive (who doesn’t love a pizza party?).
- Ask EVERYONE!
Thank you again to all our supporters. If you need assistance, please contact holidayhelpings@breadforthecity.org or 202-480-8970.
